Movie premiere, "The Age of Stupid: a Global Wake-Up Call" (17/09/2009)
The British Embassy in Caracas invites you for the premiere in Venezuela of the movie “The Age of Stupid” this Tuesday 22nd September at 7p.m. at the Caracas Botanical Garden auditorium.
The Age of Stupid is a documentary-drama-animation directed by Franny Armstrong (McLibel, Drowned Out) and produced by Oscar-winning John Battsek (One Day in September, Live Forever, In the Shadows of the Moon). The British Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite stars as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055. He watches 'archive' footage from the first decade of the 21st century and asks: Why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance?
The Age of Stupid comes to us in a crucial year for climate change. In December 2009, delegates from all the Member States of the United Nations will gather in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the purpose of negotiating and adopting measures to stop the alarming advance of global warming and adapt to the inevitable changes.
The consequences of climate change on the economy, the environment and society in general world-wide are evident now and also capable of generating crises without precedent. That is why the international attention is focussed on urging governments across the world to reach an agreement that is ambitious and that counts with the effective commitment of every country to reduce the generation of gases that cause global warming. That is the ultimate goal in which the UK is focussing its efforts.
