Disabled access to this Embassy
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office and this Embassy are keen to ensure that their buildings and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public. Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. In these situations we will endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people. To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access at this Embassy. We hope this information is helpful.
General physical access
The British Embassy in Caracas is situated on the 11th floor of a 13-floor tower block in La Castellana.
- Entrances from the street are by steps and there is no ramp. To gain entrance to the embassy by wheelchair is possible through the car park with the aid of a portable ramp for one high curb to access the lift.
- There is no transfer space for wheelchairs in the car park and there are no disabled parking bays.
- Entrance to the embassy is by lift from the ground floor, which is accessible to wheelchairs.
- The consular area is accessible for wheelchairs.
- A disabled toilet is situated in the reception area.
- All floors are safe and even.
- There are only handrails in the toilets.
- All areas are brightly lit.
- Emergency evacuation from the embassy is via the staircase, for the disabled there is one lift, which can be used during an emergency evacuation and is fire proofed, security guards can assist.
- All telephones are desk height and therefore accessible to wheelchair users.
Access for visually-impaired visitors
- There are no signs, assistance can be sought from the main reception desk on the ground floor.
- Guide dogs are allowed entry into the building
Access for deaf/hard of hearing visitors
- Hearing loops are not installed
- Sign language: not offered
- Hearing dogs are welcome
