Other locations in Venezuela
In addition to our Embassy in Caracas there are also a number of Honorary Consuls located throughout Venezuela.
Functions of Honorary Consuls:
Under the supervision of HM Consul at Caracas, Honorary Consuls are responsible for the following:
• Protection work, including ad hoc prison visiting
• Shipping duties
• Performing limited notarial acts
• Levying Consular Fees as appropriate
• Promoting British commercial interests
You should be aware that Honorary Consuls do not:
• Register births and deaths
• Deal with claims or the administration of estates
• Provide passport facilities other than to accept applications and send them for action to Caracas
• Undertake political reporting or information work
Warden system:
In addition to the Honorary Consuls, we rely on the voluntary help of local wardens. The warden system is designed to help us in providing assistance to British citizens in times of trouble.
Wardens are active and well-known members of the British community. Wardens would be our first point of contact if we ever reached the stage of passing on advice or other information to the British community. We would ask the wardens to pass messages to the British community (by e-mail) in their area.
The warden system is not a substitute Consular service. However, wardens do provide the Consul with links to the British community. They marshal evacuees in the event of an evacuation.
